Obituary:
Richard “Zeke” Zirkelbach, age 67, of Evansville, passed away while on vacation in Conway, South Carolina. Zeke was a part owner of The Car Company and the former owner and operator of the St. Joe Tavern; a unique west side business man. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Barkley Lake, fishing and playing golf. He also loved farming, clabber, spot shoots, hunting, yoga and a good conversation; he did not know a stranger. He also loved his dog, Sammy Dog. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Riverbend Association, Eagles, Evansville Athletic Club, American Legion and Hilltop Grove. Surviving Zeke are his wife of 45 years, Billie Jo (McBride) Zirkelbach; two daughters, Trish Ann (Jeb) Smithwick of Indianapolis and Megan Zirkelbach of Nashville, TN; two sons, Gabe (Julie) Zirkelbach and Bart (Kristi) Zirkelbach, both of Evansville; three sisters, Joyce (Bill) Calhoun, Janet (Allen) Hamilton and Deborah Blake and a brother, Mark (Cindy) Zirkelbach, all of Evansville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Katlyn and Mackenzie Zirkelbach, Jenna, Lauren and Blake Zirkelbach, Marlie Pleak and Nova Overby. Zeke was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lucille (Drone) Zirkelbach and a son, Abe W. Zirkelbach in 1969. He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and Papa Zeke. There will never be another Zeke. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Rev. Paul Ferguson officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 5:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Monday at Holy Redeemer Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
